Hottentot (Anas punctata).

Hottentot (Anas punctata).

One pair in the main garden and one pair in the aviary.  The male has a blackish crown and nape, which gives the head a distinctly capped appearance.  The cheeks and throat are buffish with black markings on the side and back of the neck.  The female has very similar colours and markings and will nest amongst thick vegetation close to the water’s edge.  The egg clutch size is 5-8 creamy-buff eggs.
