Avocets (Recurvirostra avosetta L.)
Two pairs kept in our aviary.
Sexes resemble each
other, a very delicate bird. Egg clutch is 4 ochre brown black spotted eggs,
laid in a small scrape. Two problems may occur with these birds in captivity, abnormal growth
of the bill and damage to their feet. With this in mind the conditions they are kept in is essential
in that the ground must be kept free from all irritants.
All food and droppings must be removed each day to avoid any bacteria
forming.
Food: Insectivorous mixture with added tinned dog
food and dried shrimp. |
