Javan Tree Duck

Javan Tree Duck (Dendrocygna javancia).

New to our collection this year is a pair of Lesser (Javan) Whistling Ducks in the Aviary with the African White-backed Ducks and Hottentot Teal. These weigh half as much as the larger species with plumage very similar to the Fulvous Tree Duck. The clutch size can vary from 7 to 12 white eggs.
The nest is made up of leaves and twigs very similar to the nest made by our African White Backed Duck, so we have made plenty of areas for them to make a nest, including several boxes.
